Russia's invasion of Ukraine has led to a serious increase in orders for various types of weapons. In particular, from the Swedish defense industry.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to ERR.
Representatives of the Swedish defense industry say they feel the impact of the war in Ukraine in the growth of orders. Both the industry and politicians should make efforts to support Ukraine and increase Europe's defense capabilities.
"For decades, we have been accustomed to the logic of peacetime, when time did not count. We looked at the price of the product and the product itself. Now time matters, everything depends on time. And we are not really ready for this, neither in industry nor in governments," said Robert Limmergard, Secretary General of the Swedish Defense Industry Association,
The EU has recently announced a joint purchase of artillery ammunition. In the future, several Swedish companies may also take part in it. The Swedish defense industry considers joint procurement a good initiative, but in the future, agreements between the two countries may prove to be more useful.
"Neither the European Commission nor the European Defense Agency is used to procuring such products, but the member states are used to procuring such products. Agreements between several member states could be the best way to go. But this initiative and the financial support from the European Commission were appropriate and good to encourage member states to act," Limmergaard said.-
