On March 23-24, the European Union and the United States conducted joint naval exercises in the Indo-Pacific region to ensure freedom of navigation on the high seas.
This was announced simultaneously by the US Department of State and the European External Action Service.
It is noted that the USS Paul Hamilton destroyer, as well as the Spanish ship Reina Sofia and the Italian frigate Carlo Bergamini, which are part of the EU naval forces as part of Operation Atalanta, took part in the exercises.
"The exercises included the professional exchange of experience on-boarding procedures, ship navigation, and training aimed at improving interoperability and integration," the US and EU foreign ministries said.
The reports emphasize that the exercises are part of the EU and US joint commitment to work on practical maritime cooperation and support a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
"The EU and the United States reaffirm their commitment to further coordinate and complement regional maritime security work to support freedom of navigation and other internationally-legal uses of the sea in the Indo-Pacific region," the statements added.-
