The Republicans, who are leading the investigation and have a majority in the House, said during the hearing that Joe Biden lied about the foreign business ties of family members - primarily his son Hunter - and failed to take steps to separate them from his official duties as Vice President of the United States from 2009 to 2017.

An expert in forensic accounting, a former US Department of Justice official, and two law professors were called to testify at the hearing.

Republicans claim to have received wire transfers from Chinese nationals sent to Hunter that were allegedly made to Joe Biden's home address in Delaware - but it is unclear whether he personally received the money.

Over the previous months, investigations in the US House of Representatives have not found evidence of Biden's misconduct.
