Advisor to Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, Yuriy Sak, admits that the Netherlands has the ability to be the first to provide Kyiv with F-16 fighter jets.
His words are quoted by Politico.
According to Sack, "the Netherlands is in a position to be the first country" to donate fighter jets.
Currently, the Netherlands has 24 F-16 fighter jets that are operationally ready for deployment and will remain in use until mid-2024, the publication quoted a spokesman for the Dutch Defense Ministry as saying. "After that, they will be available for other purposes, such as for sale," he said.
The Netherlands also has another 18 F-16 fighters "that are no longer used for operational purposes" and which "can also be used for other purposes." 12 of these 18 aircraft were originally planned to be transferred to a private company, but the transfer was postponed, the spokesman said.
