The Prime Minister of Georgia, which has refused to impose sanctions on Russia over its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, said that his country is doing everything to preserve peace.
Irakli Garibashvili said this at the Council of Europe summit in Reykjavik, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.
During his speech, Garibashvili said that Russian aggression against Ukraine is forcing Europe to go through one of the most difficult periods.
"Georgia firmly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, having its own experience of Russian aggression in 2008, when we had a full-scale war with Russia. Our country suffered greatly in that war, 20% of our territory is still occupied," Garibashvili said.
He added that due to their own experience, Georgians know the price of war and the price of peace very well. Garibashvili mentioned that Georgia has experienced several wars on its territory since gaining independence, and therefore is now doing everything to preserve peace.
"We are aware of what war brings, and we are doing everything for peace... Obviously, today the global order is changing, the world will never be the same as before, and no one can get out of this difficult situation on their own. So we need unity and global consolidation for a new and just order," Garibashvili said.
