In the coming weeks, new sanctions will be introduced against Russia, which will affect the defense capability and financial capacity of the aggressor country.
This was announced by the State Department's sanctions coordinator, Ambassador James O'Brien, the press service of the Office of the President of Ukraine reports.
The representative of the State Department met in video format with the head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak.
Ambassador James O'Brien stressed that a working group at the U.S. Department of State, which has about 30 members, is studying in detail all the materials provided by the Ukrainian government and the Yermak-McFaul group. According to him, a number of important areas are being finalized and new sanctions are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
As for determining the priority areas in which economic restrictions will be implemented first, according to the State Department adviser, the benchmark will be the effect of the sanctions. It is stated that they should hit Russia's ability on the battlefield and "hurt" Moscow financially.
Earlier we reported that the European Union is speeding up work on the tenth package of sanctions against Russia. They want to approve it before the Ukraine-EU summit, scheduled for early February.
