The United States and Australia have appealed to countries that have influence over Russia, including China. They are calling on Moscow to end the war in Ukraine.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Pentagon press service.
It is noted that bilateral talks in the "2+2" format have recently taken place in the American city of Annapolis. The talks were attended by U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin, and their Australian counterparts Penny Wong and Richard Marles.
Among the topics of the meeting between the US and Australian representatives was Russia's war against Ukraine. They condemned Moscow for starting the war and called for the withdrawal of troops from the territory of Ukraine and compensation for damages.
"They expressed support for the Ukraine Peace Summit and reaffirmed the need to achieve a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in accordance with the UN Charter. The ministers called on all those with influence over Russia, especially China, to use it now to end the war and to stop supporting Russia's military industrial base," the Pentagon said in a statement.
The United States and Australia reiterated their position that those who support Russia's illegal war will face consequences and reaffirmed their intention to increase sanctions against countries that support Russia's war.
In addition, both countries condemned Iran for supporting Russia and providing it with drones and missiles. The United States and Australia also condemned the growing "friendship" between Russia and the DPRK, including the supply of North Korean weapons to Russia for the war against Ukraine.
