The U.S. intends to modify Abrams tanks to be delivered to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
This is reported by the American portal USA Today, citing statements by US officials and military experts.
According to media reports, some high-tech components are being removed from the tanks. According to unnamed officials, this is a necessary step in case Abrams tanks fall into the hands of representatives of the occupying country.
"This may or may not allow Russia to conduct tests on them and find vulnerabilities," said Colin Smith, an expert at Rand Corporation.
Due to the modernization process, the tanks will not be used in the spring counteroffensive of the Ukrainian military.
At the same time, the publication notes that Ukraine is not the first country to receive a "stripped-down" version of American military equipment. The U.S. government often sends weapons to partners without certain high-tech components.
