Training space for drones opened in Vilnius

Aug 2, 2024

On Friday, a drone training facility opened in Vilnius, as the importance of drones has increased during Russia's war against Ukraine.

This is reported by LRT.

Among other things, the new space will be used to conduct drone operator courses starting in September, which will be open to anyone who wants to gain basic UAV management skills.

"There has never been such a space in Vilnius before. It is built on the basis of three segments for different levels of readiness, and different drones can operate there," said Vilnius Mayor Valdas Benkunskas at a press conference on Friday.

"The goal is very clear, as we see all the trends of the war in Ukraine, the desire is for the public to develop their skills in operating UAVs," he added.

According to Benkunskas, the training ground cost about 50,000 euros to set up.

Although it is the only training ground created by the municipality so far, the need for it may arise during the cold season, he added.

Deputy Defense Minister Kamile Gogelienė said that Vilnius is the first city to respond to the ministry's request to help organize drone operator training courses scheduled for the fall.
