The U.S. is ready to negotiate with China at a high level and wants to establish more effective channels of communication between the two countries.

This was stated by U.S. Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns, reports NBC.

U.S. relations with China remain "complicated" and competitive, but Washington does not seek conflict with Beijing and believes further dialogue will be constructive, he said.

"Our view is we need better channels between the two governments and deeper channels, and we are ready to talk," Burns said.

He stressed that it is especially important to do so "when you’ve got big problems and when you have major disagreements in the relationship".

"We’ve never been shy of talking, and we hope the Chinese will meet us halfway on this," Burns said.

As a reminder, Burns previously said that Western countries expect China to influence the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine. Beijing needs to be tougher on Moscow.

U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the United States was open to China's efforts to promote peace in Ukraine. However, Beijing must understand that all initiatives must be built on the restoration of basic principles - territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence.
