The United States Department of State has responded to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's refusal to travel to South Africa to attend the BRICS summit.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to a briefing by State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.

The State Department noted that Putin refused to attend the BRICS summit in person because of an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court, and this indicates a final loss of his authority.

"There is no better example, no better illustration of the significant deterioration of Russia's credibility in the world than the fact that President Putin is now unlikely to be able to travel abroad," Miller said.

He added that the Russian Federation's position in the world has deteriorated significantly due to the war in Ukraine, which has become a strategic defeat for Putin.
