Ukraine plans to open humanitarian corridors in Kursk region

Ukraine intends to open humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of residents of the Kursk region amid hostilities in the region.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, on Telegram.

According to her, to protect the regions bordering Russia, Ukraine is creating a security zone on the territory of the Russian Federation. Russian civilians live in this zone. They are protected by humanitarian law.

Therefore, as Vereshchuk emphasized, the Ukrainian military plans to

  • conduct humanitarian operations to support Russian civilians in the border areas of the Kursk region;
  • opening of humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of civilians: both in the direction of Russia and Ukraine;
  • allowing international humanitarian organizations to enter the security zone for the purpose of humanitarian response and monitoring the humanitarian situation.
