On Monday, August 5, Ukraine received the first tranche of financial support from the United States in the form of a grant from the $60 billion aid package approved in the spring.
This was announced by Finance Minister Sergiy Marchenko, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.
Marchenko said that on August 5, the state budget received the first grant from the United States in 2024 in the amount of $3.9 billion, which is part of a large package of support for Ukraine in the amount of $60 billion.
"It is the non-repayable form of support that is extremely important for us, as it does not increase the debt burden. These funds will be used to reimburse social and humanitarian expenditures: salaries of teachers, rescuers (SES) and the public sector in general, as well as payments to IDPs, low-income families and people with disabilities," the minister said.
He thanked the United States and noted that the United States is the largest donor of external financing for Ukraine among the countries of the world. Since February 2022, direct budgetary support from the United States has reached almost $27 billion, which is more than 25% of all assistance provided.
Sergii Marchenko reminded that Ukraine can use funds from international partners exclusively to finance humanitarian and social expenditures.
