Ukraine will join the North Atlantic Alliance as a sovereign, independent country within the 1991 borders. No other options were discussed.
This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
Answering the question about joining NATO “in parts,” i.e., the territories controlled by Ukraine de facto, Stefanishyna said: “I do not believe that Ukraine should propose any solutions now before the allies have offered Ukrainian membership in the Alliance.” ”We will never raise the question of certain restrictions or redistribution in the issue of NATO membership. There is Ukraine within the 1991 borders, a sovereign, independent country that is joining NATO,” she said.
Stefanishyna explained that at the stage when it comes to ratification of the decision to recognize Ukraine as a member of NATO, Kyiv will communicate with everyone, and this process will be open and public. “But at this stage, no format has been created between Ukraine and the allies where such discussions can take place,” she added.
