"I’ve left for the United States to strengthen the stability and defense capabilities of Ukraine. In particular, U.S. President Joe Biden and I will discuss cooperation between Ukraine and the United States. I will also speak in Congress and hold a number of bilateral meetings," Zelensky wrote.

The Presidential Office said that the Ukrainian leader would address a joint session of the two houses of the U.S. Congress and hold a number of bilateral meetings.

The visit of the Ukrainian president was also confirmed by the White House. They said that the two leaders would hold a bilateral meeting during which Biden would announce a major new $2 billion military aid package for Ukraine. The package will include the Patriot system.

The Biden administration called Zelensky's visit a signal to Russian President Vladimir Putin that Washington will support Kyiv as long as necessary.

In addition, during Zelensky's visit, it is planned to discuss the approval by Congress of additional aid to Ukraine worth over 40 billion dollars.

The night before, the Western media announced Zelensky's visit to Washington. It is worth noting that this is the Ukrainian leader's first foreign visit since Russia's full-scale invasion on 24 February.
