On Wednesday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated the need to amend the law on diplomatic service to give ambassadors more opportunities to operate abroad.
This was stated in Zelensky's speech during a meeting with the heads of Ukraine's foreign diplomatic missions, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.
The Head of State reminded that at his last meeting with the heads of diplomatic missions, he had already instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare draft amendments to the law "On Diplomatic Service."
"Have we made such changes? This is a question. We need to talk about this, and I instruct the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Office, to immediately and jointly complete the process of amending the laws and ensure the operation of new norms, and therefore opportunities for Ukrainian ambassadors by the end of this year," he added.
Zelenskyy emphasized that the new version of the relevant law should give embassies the opportunity to work as a single team, and ambassadors more opportunities to form a team of representation.
The President also mentioned the issue of financing the work of diplomats.
"The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the relevant deputy head of the Office reported to me on the relevant budget request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We will definitely discuss this budget request with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance so that Ukrainian embassies will have the resources to work for Ukraine," Zelenskyy added.
