Polish government approves changes to refugee assistance rules

Apr 30, 2024

On April 30, the Polish government approved draft amendments to the law on assistance to Ukrainian citizens, which provides for greater transparency in the payment of financial assistance, as well as changes to the living conditions of Ukrainian refugees.

This was reported by RMF FM.

Among the most important changes envisaged by the bill is the linking of payments under the 800 Plus (PLN 800 per month per child) and Good Start (PLN 300 once for children going to school) programs to compulsory schooling.

It is envisaged that these payments will be provided to Ukrainians living with a child in Poland if the child is required to attend school or preschool.

The draft law establishes a maximum 36-month period during which Ukrainian students can participate in additional free Polish language classes and exempts Ukrainian students from the mandatory eighth-grade Polish language exam in the 2024/2025 school year.
