The UN warns of the high probability of an Israeli invasion of Rafah

Israel is planning a military operation in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. This will be the greatest tragedy in history, and no peace plan will be able to resist it.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the statement of the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator at the UN, Martin Griffiths.

In his opinion, the ground operation in Rafah "will be nothing but a tragedy that cannot be described in words" and "no humanitarian plan can resist it."

"The world has been calling on the Israeli authorities to spare Rafah for weeks now, but a ground operation in the city is not far off," Griffiths said.

He emphasized that for the hundreds of thousands of people who have fled to Gaza's southernmost point to escape disease, hunger, mass graves, and direct fighting, "a ground invasion would mean more injury and death."

"For organizations trying to deliver humanitarian aid despite active fighting, impassable roads, unexploded ordnance, fuel shortages, delays at crossings, and Israeli restrictions, a ground invasion would be a catastrophic blow," Griffiths added.

The UN's primary mission is to express discouragement. This outmoded organization can do nothing else.
