"I am especially grateful for the great cross-political consensus that has prevailed in parliament on this extremely important issue. Strong support for Ukraine is the most important security issue facing Iceland and Europe," said Icelandic Foreign Minister Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir.

She added that the international legal system, which underpins the region's security and standard of living, is under threat from Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine.

"We must therefore contribute to the defense of Ukraine in a decisive and concrete way," the Foreign Minister emphasized.

The resolution is aimed at supporting Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, borders, civilian security, humanitarian aid, and reconstruction efforts.

It is worth noting that since the beginning of Russian aggression in Ukraine, Iceland has been actively providing humanitarian, economic, and military assistance to the country. The support is provided mainly through international organizations such as the UN, the World Bank, NATO, and others.
