May 19, 2024

Yesterday, on May 18, Iranian-backed Houthis fired an anti-ship ballistic missile at the Greek-owned oil tanker Wind in the Red Sea, which was sailing under the Panamanian flag to China. The tanker recently docked in Russia.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Central Command of the US Armed Forces.

The impact caused flooding, which led to a loss of traction and steering.

The coalition ship immediately responded to the distress signal sent by the Wind, but no assistance was needed. The crew was able to resume their course. No casualties were reported.

“This continued malicious and reckless behavior by the Iranian-backed Houthis threatens regional stability and endangers the lives of mariners in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden,” the statement said.
