Protests continue in Tbilisi for 16th day in a row

On April 30, another protest against the adoption of the law “On Transparency of Foreign Influence” or the law on “foreign agents”, which has drawn criticism from the West and civil society, continues near the Georgian parliament building in Tbilisi.

The action against the second attempt of the ruling Georgian Dream party to pass the bill on “foreign agents” is taking place in Tbilisi for the 16th day in a row. The protesters are holding the flags of Georgia and the European Union, as well as posters with slogans criticizing the government and hinting at its ties to Russia.

Later, in front of the Georgian parliament building on Chitadze Street, a physical confrontation between police and protesters took place. Law enforcement officers pushed the citizens away from the side entrance to the parliament. A special forces unit and special equipment were mobilized at the scene.

The protesters chanted in the direction of the Georgian Dream MPs who were leaving the parliament building: “Russians”, “Slaves”.
