US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump could already have developed a strategy for Israel and China. In particular, he wants to continue trade relations with Beijing.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Financial Times.
According to the FT, citing the Republican presidential candidate's entourage, despite the fact that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu clearly supports Trump's victory in the election, “the strength of their relationship is wavering.”
The newspaper learned that Trump will put pressure on Netanyahu to cease fire in the Gaza Strip if he believes that the time has come to resolve the conflict.
“President Trump can divide Israel and Netanyahu. He can be critical of the leadership's decisions, but at the same time support the country's right to self-defense,” suggests Rick Grenell, a Trump ally who could play an important role if he is re-elected.
In his opinion, one scenario is a quick invitation to Netanyahu to Washington, D.C., if Trump becomes president, to negotiate a ceasefire and the return of hostages taken by Hamas. Under such conditions, a peace agreement could be signed.
At the same time, according to the FT, the question of Netanyahu's reaction to such a scenario remains open.
Journalists also suggest that Trump is seeking to return to the idea of a grand bargain with Israel and Saudi Arabia for the sake of long-term peace in the region.
At the same time, Trump may put pressure on Iran by threatening to impose new sanctions in case of violation of the existing ones.
“The goal should be to bankrupt Iran again and restore maximum pressure,” said Fred Fleitz, a former CIA analyst who worked in the Trump White House.-
Republican Congressman Mike Waltz said that in personal communication with Trump, he claims that China needs America more than America needs China.
“He talks a lot more about trade agreements, tariffs, and currency than he does about what we do in the case of a conflict in the Taiwan Strait. He believes we use economic power, backed by a strong military presence, that can prevent these wars,” Waltz added.
According to Trump's supporters, the former US president will use “maximum deterrence” to dissuade China from going to war with Taiwan.
“Xi Jinping (China's leader - ed.) knows that if he takes any aggressive action, Donald Trump will ensure that there are real consequences,” said Senator Bill Hagerty, who was ambassador to Japan during Trump's presidency.-
The FT pointed out that although Trump and Biden's policies toward China are similar in some respects, the former threatens China with more serious sanctions. If such restrictions come into effect, Washington will hope that European countries will join the sanctions.
