On Monday, the annual NATO military exercise DIVEX 24 for divers began in the Latvian city of Liepaja, during which they improved their knowledge of the disposal of unexploded ordnance in the marine environment.
This was reported by Delfi.
According to representatives of the National Armed Forces (NAF), the purpose of the exercise is to improve skills in the disposal of unexploded ordnance, as well as in their search, identification, and, if necessary, removal, transportation, and destruction.
Divers are tasked with clearing ports and shipping lanes to make them safe for everyday use.
Participants in the exercise include military personnel from the United States, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Germany. The exercise, which is held annually on a rotating basis by one of the Baltic states, was first held in 2014.
