On Monday, July 15, Armenia and the United States launched joint military exercises Eagle Partner 2024 amid Yerevan's increasing drift away from Russia.
This was reported by the Armenian Ministry of Defense.
The joint exercises with the U.S. Army in Europe and Africa and the Kansas National Guard will continue in Armenia until July 24.
As explained by the Armenian Defense Ministry, the Eagle Partner 2024 exercise "will focus on stabilization tasks between warring parties during a peacekeeping mission."
"The purpose of the exercise is to increase the interoperability of units participating in international peacekeeping missions, exchange best practices in the field of management and tactical communications, and increase the readiness of the Armenian unit," the statement said.
The Armenia-U.S. exercises are the latest development in the context of Yerevan's gradual turn to the West to reduce its dependence on Russia.
Relations between Armenia and Russia have deteriorated after Russian peacekeepers failed last year to prevent Azerbaijani forces from taking control of Nagorno-Karabakh, which has been controlled by separatists for three decades.
