Austin asks countries that have Patriot to transfer them to Ukraine

Apr 30, 2024

Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said he is asking countries that have Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to transfer them to Ukraine amid a shortage of air defense stocks.

He said this at a hearing at the US House of Representatives Armed Services Committee on April 30, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.

Austin recalled last week's meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine's Defense, which focused on the supply of air defense equipment.

“There are countries that have Patriot, and what we are doing is continuing to negotiate with these countries. I have personally spoken with several leaders in the last two weeks, encouraging them to give up more equipment or provide more equipment,” he said.

The Pentagon chief did not specify with whom he spoke about helping Ukraine, but it is known that in Europe, Spain, Greece, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and Sweden have Patriot batteries.
