U.S. President Joe Biden has addressed the nation amid an assassination attempt on Donald Trump in Pennsylvania.
Biden's statement was cited by the White House press service, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.
In his address to the Americans, Biden spoke about the need to reduce the degree of tension in the country's political life after the assassination attempt on Trump.
"I want to talk to you about the need to lower the temperature in our politics and remember that while we may disagree, we are not enemies. We are neighbors. We are friends, colleagues, citizens. And, most importantly, we are compatriots. And we must stand together," the American president said.
He added that in a democracy, there may be differences in political views, but politics "should never be a battlefield."
"In America, we resolve our differences at the ballot box... not with bullets. The power to change America should always be in the hands of the people, not in the hands of a potential assassin," Biden said.-
The president wished Trump a speedy recovery and called a 50-year-old firefighter named Corey, who was killed during a Trump rally, a hero.
Biden also added that the investigation into the assassination attempt is ongoing and the shooter's motives remain unclear.
