The British government has clarified that it has not yet authorized Ukraine to use Storm Shadow missiles against targets in Russia, after many people drew this conclusion from statements by Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
This was reported by The Telegraph, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.
On Thursday, Downing Street commented that the government's policy on Ukraine's use of the long-range weapons transferred to it "has not changed," despite Starmer's comments that the way the UK's Storm Shadow missiles are used is a matter for Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later recalled that he "learned about the permission to use Storm Shadow against targets in Russia" and that he had spoken to Starmer about this at their first meeting.
Sources told reporters that Storm Shadow "has not been used yet this year."
One of the sources said that the situation was "more nuanced" than it appeared, and that the use of these cruise missiles against targets in Russia would require the coordinated consent of three countries, one of which is Britain.
