The leaders of the United Kingdom and Germany have responded to U.S. President Joe Biden's announcement that he will not run for a second term in the 2024 presidential election by thanking him for his work.
This was reported by Yevropeiska Pravda.
German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz called Biden a friend and noted that he has done a lot for the United States, Europe, and the world.
“Thanks to him, transatlantic cooperation is close, NATO is strong, and the United States is a good and reliable partner for us. His decision not to run for re-election deserves respect,” Scholz wrote.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he respects Biden's decision.
“I know that he has - as he has done throughout his distinguished career - made decisions based on his beliefs about what is best for the American people,” Starmer wrote.
The previous prime ministers of the United Kingdom who have worked with Biden over the past four years also published their reactions.
Rishi Sunak noted that while working with Biden, he saw “his love for America and his dedication to service.”
“Our partnership has led to significant accomplishments, including the AUKUS format, strong support for Israel, and joint efforts to protect our people from the threats of the Houthis. I wish him all the best,” Sunak wrote.-
