European Union leaders are preparing a joint response to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's free-for-all diplomacy, trying to draw a line under his controversial visit to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Financial Times.
According to people with knowledge of the discussions, yesterday on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington, informal groups of EU leaders discussed ideas, including a joint letter to Orban, in which they clearly expressed their indignation and demanded that he stop his unauthorized foreign policy forays.
"Enough is enough. There is a lot of irritation and discussions about how to respond," said one of the interlocutors.
Another source said that another suggestion was to convene a special meeting of EU affairs ministers dedicated solely to addressing Hungary's misdeeds.
The majority also supported the legal assessment that Orban "jeopardized" the EU's common goals and violated the rules of foreign policy "solidarity."
