German Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Jaeger has criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for his "peaceful voyages" towards Ukraine.
Jaeger said this in an interview with Suspilne.
The diplomat noted that Hungary should not abuse its role as the EU Council presidency.
"I believe that if you belong to a club, you have to play by the rules. What the Hungarian prime minister has done does not comply with these rules," Martin Jaeger said.
The EU Council Presidency, he noted, does not speak for the European Union and has no mandate to act abroad on its behalf.
"This means that either there was a misunderstanding or perhaps it was provoked on purpose," added Jaeger.
He also called it wrong to cancel the visit of the Hungarian foreign minister to Germany. "This should not happen between friends and partners," the diplomat said.
