The German government, which during Donald Trump's first presidency in the United States was often criticized for its energy dependence on Russia and low defense spending, is preparing for his possible re-election in 2024.
This is stated in the Financial Times publication.
In preparation for Trump's second presidency, the German Foreign Ministry has formed an informal crisis group to discuss the potential consequences of the US election for Berlin.
Since the spring, a division of the German Ministry of Economy has been trying to calculate the impact of tariffs that Trump may impose and review supply chains to the country for potential replacement of high-tech and raw materials from the United States.
