Greece is going to decommission 32 old F-16 Block-30 fighter jets and sell them to the United States for further transfer to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Al Jazeera.
According to the publication's sources, Athens plans to sell these aircraft back to the United States. There they will be modernized and handed over to Ukraine.
In exchange, a US Congressional committee allowed Greece to buy up to 40 fifth-generation F-35 multi-role aircraft. The country also plans to upgrade 82 F-16s to Block-70s and purchase 24 fourth-generation Dassault Rafale fighters from France.
One of the Greek Air Force representatives noted that the sale of 32 F-16s would create a large gap in the country's air force. According to him, there should be a quorum of about 200 aircraft, which is impossible to achieve with more modern and expensive fighters.
