Hungary blocks aid to Armenia from the EU's “military” fund

Apr 30, 2024

Hungary is allegedly blocking the decision to provide support to Armenia from the European Peace Fund, demanding that Azerbaijan be included in the program.

This was reported by the Armenian service of Radio Liberty (Radio Azatutyun), citing diplomatic sources.

According to the sources, Hungary does not want to coordinate support for Armenia from the European Peace Fund and demands that Azerbaijan be included in the program. This demand is allegedly ready to be discussed in order to break the deadlock.

In mid-April, Radio Azatutyun learned that the EU countries had previously agreed to provide Armenia with 10 million euros from the European Peace Fund, which would be the first such assistance for the country.

The funds are to be used to build a modular town with a hospital for one battalion and some other capacities “in order to help the Armenian armed forces increase their resilience and stability maintenance capabilities and thus better assist the civilian population during crises and emergencies.”
