The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) struck an area in the Gaza Strip "where two high-ranking Hamas terrorists were hiding among civilians." The military reported this on the social network X on Saturday, July 13.
"The strike target was an open area surrounded by trees, several houses, and sheds," the report said.
The military also released a photo of the complex where the terrorists were hiding before and after the strike.
In turn, The Times of Israel, citing the country's armed forces, claims that the target of the air strike was the commander of Hamas's military wing, Mohammed Deif, and the commander of the Khan Younis brigade, Rafaa Salameh. At the time of the attack, there were several dozen other militants and guards near the building where the high-ranking Hamas members were hiding.
In turn, the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip reported that the strike killed at least 71 people and injured 289 others. It was not reported how many of them were civilians. In the past, Hamas has often exaggerated the number of victims to blame Israel.
