On Thursday, the Latvian Saeima adopted a statement expressing support for Ukraine at the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius and calling for a decision to invite Ukraine to join the Alliance.

In the adopted resolution, Latvian parliamentarians called it vital to use the Vilnius NATO summit to expand the Alliance's support for Ukraine through practical measures, as well as to strengthen bilateral political partnerships.
The Latvian Saeima also called for the formulation of specific tasks to be accomplished for Ukraine's rapid integration into NATO.
Separately, the parliamentarians supported the assistance to Ukraine from the European Union and NATO allies, providing military, technical, defense, and humanitarian support to Ukraine as much as necessary to "ensure the ability of the Ukrainian state to effectively defend its territory on land, sea, and air".
The statement emphasizes that Latvia will continue to provide comprehensive support to Ukraine to strengthen its resilience to Russian aggression, as well as in post-war reconstruction.
Separately, the Saeima called for tougher sanctions against Russia and Belarus to deprive the aggressor countries of the financial and technological resources necessary to continue the war.
