Lithuania intends to increase its mine capacity and is considering the possibility of producing mines on its territory.
This was reported by Defense Minister Laurinas Kasciunas, as quoted by Yevropeiska Pravda, as quoted by LRT.
According to him, Lithuania is already purchasing mines and plans to continue them next year. Over the next ten years, it is planned to spend 600 million euros on counter-mobility equipment, mainly mines.
“The main emphasis is on the purchase of land-based anti-tank mines, as well as various types of anti-board and bottom mines, as we are talking not only about land mines but also about sea mines,” Kasciunas said at a press conference at the government.
The minister also noted that Lithuania is negotiating with domestic enterprises on the possibility of producing mines in the country.
“We are discussing with our industry the possibility of creating a Lithuanian mine, perhaps simpler but more effective,” Kasciunas said.-
He also said that some companies have already expressed their willingness to do this, and they plan to meet in August to discuss the prospects of Lithuanian mine production.
In July, during the NATO summit in Washington, the Baltic states and Germany signed a letter of intent to jointly purchase naval mines.
