At the NATO summit, French President Emmanuel Macron tried to reassure allies who were forced to question Paris' role in the Alliance in the coming years after the early parliamentary elections.
According to Yevropeiska Pravda, Reuters reports.
The French leader said at a press conference that he had reassured NATO allies, who, he said, were more pleased than concerned about the election results, which led to political uncertainty.
"I have confirmed to all my partners, allies, that France will be consistent in its international commitments, whether in Europe, in the Alliance, or in its support for Ukraine, because the political forces that make up the majority in parliament support it," he said, referring to members of his bloc, as well as center-left and center-right.
According to Reuters, on the sidelines, Macron sought to tell his allies that the result of the French parliamentary elections was not as bad as feared, as neither the far right nor the far left won an absolute majority.
Three European officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the French president took time at a meeting of the North Atlantic Council, NATO's top political decision-making body, to emphasize his message and reaffirm Paris' support for Ukraine.
