The July 9-11 NATO Summit in Washington decided to increase NATO's presence in Ukraine, including the appointment of a special representative in Kyiv.
Details of the decision are provided in the article by Yevropeiska Pravda "Preparedness for Trump and Ukraine. How the NATO Summit Prepared Safeguards for the New US Administration".
According to the decision of the NATO summit, the NATO mission in Ukraine will change its head, who will have a new status - he will be a special representative of the Secretary General.
The allies are currently negotiating who will take the post. According to several sources of EuroPravda, European NATO members insist that it should not be an American to balance the influence of the United States.
Also, the NATO presence in Kyiv will fundamentally change, both in number and level.
"There will be a large number of 'seconded officers' from allied countries responsible for key areas. In short, they are taking work with Ukraine seriously. And this was probably the key change brought about by the Washington summit," the article says.
The new NATO structure in Kyiv has been tasked with ensuring that Ukraine is ready to join, in particular in the implementation of security and defense sector reforms.
"This is probably the main positive news. Because if the bureaucratic machine starts working to make Ukraine a NATO member, then this intention is no longer just at the level of politicians, and they really plan to implement it. Of course, if Ukraine itself stays on this path," the article concludes.-
