Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre does not expect any US president to stop supporting Ukraine or abandon its commitments to NATO.
He said this in an interview with Bloomberg.
His words came amid concerns in Europe about the decline in US support for Ukraine after former President Donald Trump's decision to choose Senator J.D. Vance, who opposed such assistance, as his vice presidential candidate.
Commenting on the assumption that the new administration might stop supporting Ukraine, the Norwegian Prime Minister said he disagreed with the forecast that this would happen.
“When you really delve into this issue, study it, and take responsibility, you will see what is at stake. The idea that you will be all for or all against is, in my opinion, too simplistic,” said Stier.
At the same time, he noted that Europe “has to do more” in terms of defense spending and participation in regional defense plans.
“NATO is a huge benefit for all its members. I don't see any American president who would want to give it up. We have to demonstrate to the United States and everyone else the value of this partnership,” the Prime Minister summarized.
