Romania expects to sign an intergovernmental agreement with the United States on the purchase of the latest generation of F-35 fighters this fall.
According to Evropeiska Pravda, this was stated by Romanian Defense Minister Angel Tilvar, as quoted by Reuters.
Last year, Romania announced plans to purchase 32 F-35 fighter jets from American manufacturer Lockheed Martin for a total of $6.5 billion.
The deal includes logistics and training services, flight simulators and ammunition, as well as the fighters themselves.
Tilvar said that the first aircraft will be delivered no earlier than 2030.
Meanwhile, Romania has purchased 32 used F-16 fighters from Norway in addition to the 17 purchased from Portugal since 2016.
