Jun 2, 2023

On Thursday, Presidents of Ukraine and Romania Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Klaus Iohannis signed a joint declaration on Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit in Moldova.

This was reported by Yevropeiska Pravda.

The text of the declaration states that the parties "reaffirm their intention to increase joint efforts to support Ukraine's integration into the Alliance and the implementation of NATO standards," and are also ready for bilateral consultations on security guarantees for Kyiv before it joins the Alliance.

"Romania will continue to contribute to the Alliance's strong and effective political and practical support to Ukraine, aimed at ensuring the Ukrainian state's ability to effectively defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity," the document says.

Kyiv also expresses gratitude to Bucharest for its political and practical assistance, and Romania, in turn, reaffirms its readiness to support Ukraine "as long as necessary."

"The signal about security guarantees today and about our future membership in NATO is more than an open door policy, something open. And President Yohannis supports Ukraine's future in NATO. This means that he will support us and vote for it and work with other partners," Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented at the press conference.
