The exchange of prisoners between Russia, the United States, Germany, and three other countries, which began on Thursday, August 1, involves 24 people, including three American prisoners and Russian murderer Vadim Krasikov.
This was reported by CBS News, citing a source in the White House.
As part of the agreement, The Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkowitz, Marine Corps veteran Paul Whelan, and Russian-American radio journalist Alsu Kurmasheva, who were imprisoned in Russia, will return home.
Russian opposition activist and Washington Post columnist Vladimir Kara-Murza, who holds British-Russian citizenship and a green card, is also scheduled to arrive in the United States.
As part of the deal, at least 12 political prisoners held in Russia are expected to be transferred to Germany. Russia will receive eight people, most of whom are suspects or convicted of having links to Russian intelligence.
