German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's call for Western allies to shoot down Russian missiles and drones over Ukrainian territory.
Scholz's statement was cited by DW, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.
The German chancellor also said that he was not ready to lift restrictions on the use of Western weapons to strike targets in Russia.
When asked whether he agreed with other NATO countries on Zelensky's calls, Scholz said: “I see such a consensus that such steps are out of the question, and the United States has also been very clear on this.”
At the summit, Zelenskyy called on Western partners to strengthen Ukraine's air defense and lift restrictions on strikes by Western weapons on targets in Russia.
Zelenskyy also mentioned that in April, the partners helped Israel repel a massive combined strike by Iran, and emphasized that “missiles and drones are not ‘bearers of state sovereignty,’ so collective will is needed to shoot them down.
