Residents of Lubuskie and Wielkopolskie voivodeships reportedly observe more and more tanks and combat vehicles on local roads. However, the regional authorities reassure that this movement is not caused by any current events.
The movement is part of a planned operation to relocate military equipment of the US Army.
Currently, the US Army is moving equipment and vehicles from military bases in Germany to warehouses in Powidz. Previously, the transported equipment was stored at a military warehouse in Mannheim. The US base in Powidz will house 87 tanks, more than 150 infantry fighting vehicles and 18 self-propelled howitzers.
The redeployed equipment is part of the strengthening of NATO's eastern flank by the US military. The warehouses in Povidza are adjacent to the airport, which makes it possible to instantly airlift the equipment along with ammunition if necessary. The equipment will be transferred until the end of September.
“The movement of convoys between the US military and Polish regional authorities in the area is coordinated by the Polish Army's Movement Coordination Center,” the Gniezno District Office said.
