The United States has agreed to equip the F-16 fighter jets that Ukraine will receive from its European allies with American-made missiles.
This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.
The weapons for the F-16, which will be provided by the United States, include AGM-88 HARM air-to-ground missiles, long-range JDAM munitions that turn unguided bombs into smart weapons, and small-sized GLSDB precision-guided munitions.
The United States will also provide medium-range air-to-air missiles AMRAAM, and short-range air-to-air missiles AIM-9X.
The Wall Street Journal's sources declined to name specific dates for the transfer of F-16s and their weapons to Ukraine for security reasons.
A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the WSJ that the Pentagon has limited stockpiles of missiles and production capabilities, but Ukraine will receive enough to meet its most immediate needs.
“We are confident that we can deliver all of it (weapons - Ed.), at least the critical volumes that they need,” he said.
