In the state of Pennsylvania, an attempt was made on the ex-president and the likely future candidate for the presidency of the United States from the Republican Party, Donald Trump, during a rally.
After what sounded like gunshots, he touched his ear and then sat down on the ground. A little blood could be seen on his face. The Secret Service hurried Trump off the stage, and he raised his fist as he got into an SUV. So the former US president was evacuated from the scene.
According to CNN, the gunman who fired the shot was not at the rally, but probably on a rooftop outside the venue of the Trump rally.
The local district attorney said that as a result of the accident, two people died, including the shooter, according to The Washington Post. According to him, the shooter was in the building. The prosecutor stated that the attacker would have needed a rifle to shoot from such a distance, as the distance to the stand was hundreds of meters.
According to AP, the suspect in the shooting was killed by members of the Secret Service. The alleged perpetrator was not a participant in the rally.
The publication writes that the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, was allegedly the target of a shooting at a rally in the state of Pennsylvania.
After the evacuation, the Secret Service reported that Donald Trump was safe. And his campaign headquarters informed that he was examined at a local hospital.
"President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick response to this heinous act. He is OK and is being evaluated at a local medical facility. More details will be provided at a later date," Trump spokesman Stephen Chung said in a statement.
The White House said that US President Joe Biden was informed about what happened at Trump's rally in Pennsylvania. After that, it became known that Biden will address the nation.
At the same time, the US president wrote a post on the X social network that there is no place for politically motivated violence in America, and he called on the entire country to condemn this act. Biden noted that he cannot yet call the shooting at the Trump rally an assassination attempt.
In his address, Biden said he was glad to hear that Donald Trump was okay.
"I'm glad to hear he's safe and doing well. I'm praying for him, his family, and everyone who was at the rally as we await further information. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for what they delivered. America has no place for this kind of violence.-
The US president also expressed hope that he will be able to talk with Donald Trump in the evening.
