The United States has donated demining vehicles and other equipment to the State Special Transport Service (SSTS).
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the website of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
The American company Tetra Tech, which is the executor of one of the international technical assistance projects for Ukraine funded by the governments of the United States and Canada, handed over four GCS-100 demining machines with a set of attachments, tractors for transporting these machines, JCB excavators and minibuses for personnel to the SSTS. The total cost of the purchased equipment amounted to over $5.8 million.
Oleksiy Sobolev, First Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine, who took part in the equipment transfer, noted that humanitarian demining is the basis for the country's recovery.
In addition to the machinery and equipment, Tetra Tech donated personal protective equipment to the State Special Transport Service for sappers who will work with demining machines. The SSTS specialists who will operate these machines have been trained at Tetra Tech's school in Ukraine.
Some of the equipment purchased by the partners was made in Ukraine. This includes personal protective equipment, carriages for transportation of demining machines and armor for excavators.
U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink noted that the United States has provided our country with a total of $180 million in humanitarian demining assistance. This is the largest assistance that the United States has provided to other countries for mine action.
