The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia will hand over to Ukraine 100 drones purchased with funds raised by the head of the ministry, Baiba Braže, by running a half marathon this spring.
This was reported by Yevropeiska Pravda with reference to LSM.lv.
The Latvian-made drones were named Lāčplēsis in honor of the country's legendary military leader Lāčplēsis.
Ukraine's Ambassador to Latvia Anatoliy Kutsevol, who was present during the transfer, compared him to the Ukrainian ataman Ivan Sirko.
The current batch of drones will go to Ukrainian units fighting near Kramatorsk.
According to LSM.lv, Ukraine has already received more than 300 Latvian-made Irsis and Lāčplēsis drones for free.
