On Wednesday, July 31, the U.S. Treasury Department announced sanctions against those involved in the supply of weapons to Houthi rebels based in Yemen, which have threatened international trade since the end of last year.
This is stated in a statement by the US Treasury Department.
The new US sanctions target two individuals and four companies from China and Yemen that facilitated the purchase of weapons for the Houthis and enabled their attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
“The Houthis are attempting to use key jurisdictions such as China and Hong Kong to obtain and transport components needed for their deadly weapons systems,” commented U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Brian Nelson.
He promised that the United States would continue to impose sanctions on companies and individuals “who contribute to the destabilizing activities of the Houthis.”
