The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who is running for re-election, has put forward the idea of creating a pan-European air defense system.
She said this in a speech in the European Parliament on Thursday, July 18, a Yevropeiska Pravda correspondent reports.
In the part of the speech that concerned the EU's defense policy, von der Leyen stressed the need to intensify efforts in this direction, from creating a separate position of European Commissioner to increasing investment.
“We need to create joint European projects, such as a full-fledged air defense system, the Air Shield. Not only to protect our airspace, but also to send a clear and powerful signal of unity. European unity in defense,” she explained.
